What’s the Barcelona weather like?

Date:

What’s the best time of the year to visit Barcelona in terms of weather? If you are thinking about visiting this city, you probably have wondered when is the best month of the year to book those plane tickets.

Since it is a pretty difficult question to answer, we decided to share some of the pros and cons of every season of the year. Knowing the Barcelona weather in advance might help you to decide which is the best moment to visit the city, depending on your personality and what you enjoy the most when you are discovering a new place.

Winter in Barcelona

In general, we have mild temperatures in Barcelona during Winter time. It barely snows (it does maybe once every 5 years) and rainy winter days are not very common. These Barcelona temperatures reflect the Barcelona weather by month during this season:

  • December: 15°/9° Rain 3 days
  • January: 15°/9° Rain 4 days
  • February: 15°/8° Rain 4 days

Pros: Barcelona during Winter is also beautiful, specially when it gets decorated on Christmas holiday.  You will get the Christmas mood by walking the main streets of the city decorated with beautiful lights. Also, the Christmas markets like Santa Llúcia in Cathedral’s square are worth a visit.

Cons: It can get a bit chilly sometimes, so don’t forget to include a coat in your suitcase.

Spring in Barcelona

Mild temperatures and Sunny days are the protagonists during Spring in Barcelona. They are an announcement that Summer is just around the corner! It also rains some days, but weather starts to get warmer. These are the Barcelona temperatures by month during this time of the year:

  • March: 17°/10° Rain 5 days
  • April: 20°/13° Rain 6 days
  • May: 23°/16° Rain 4 days

Pros: The weather is pretty nice in Barcelona, specially during the month of May (after the winter and before Summer starts). Also time to start enjoying nice walks near the beach.

Cons: It can get a bit rainy, but no so much.

Summer in Barcelona

Sunny Barcelona at its finest! During this season of the year life is out on the streets more than ever: bar terraces, beaches, cinema “a la fresca” in parks… And the main reason is the Barcelona weather in Summer:

  • June: 27°/20° Rain 3 days
  • July: 29°/23°  Rain 1 days
  • August: 29°/23°  Rain 2 days

Pros: You can enjoy the beach and the “chiringuitos” and their summer parties. If you are a festival lover, you will love summer music festivals such as Cruilla or Sonar. Also you can discover beautiful festivities like Sant Joan to welcome in the Summer.

During July and August most of the neighborbood parties are held (what we call Festa Major). If you have the chance, we recommend you to enjoy one of them and experience a traditional Catalan festivity. We recommend you Festes de Gràcia, which are held at the end of August.

Cons: The month of August is really hot in Barcelona and public transport in rush hour can be overwhelming.

Fall in Barcelona

During the first weeks of Fall, the weather in Barcelona is still nice. Specially during September: hot days from August are already gone, and the city starts to get its melancholic and beautiful atmosphere, typical of this time of the year. The temperatures by month during Fall:

  • September: 26°/20° Rain 4 days
  • October: 23°17° Rain 6 days
  • November: 18°/ 12° Rain 5 days

Pros: September weather is pretty nice and you can still enjoy the Barcelona beaches. You can also enjoy celebrations like La Castanyada (instead of Halloween) where castanyes and boniatos take the streets and the squares of Catalonia.

Cons: The sun is not shining powerfully, but Fall in Barcelona is pretty nostalgic and beautiful.
